Byrd Song
Schola Cantorum presents the varied and masterful music of one of England’s greatest composers, William Byrd. His remarkable output included numerous sacred and secular vocal works of depth and sensitivity, and a sizeable catalog of instrumental music, something unusual for a Renaissance composer: works for consorts and keyboards, music of brilliance and geniality.

For our final concert of the season, we present Heinrich Schütz’s last work, a monumental setting of Psalm 119, all 176 verses organized into 11 double choir motets with continuo and set with dazzling compositional virtuosity.
Schola Cantorum’s Summer Workshop - Open Rehearsal
Schola Cantorum's four-day early music Workshop for Singers concludes this Sunday with an open rehearsal, to which you are cordially invited!
Admission is free, although free-will offerings will be gratefully accepted.
Parking is free one block south of the church, in the SU lot on the corner of Madison and Harrison.
This year’s repertoire is William Byrd's Mass in Four Parts.
Sing for Justice
Workshop Director Kristina Boerger will lead a singing workshop including community singers, and speak on her lifelong experience with community singing and her experiences in her hometown of Minneapolis, Minnesota this past January. Kristina is at the heart of the Minneapolis resistance. This event is co-sponsored by Syracuse Community Choir and Singing Resistance Syracuse, and is optional for Schola Workshop participants.
Happy 50th, Schola!
Marking the 50th Anniversary of Schola Cantorum of Syracuse, we present important works in Schola’s long history featuring music of Du Fay, Ockeghem, Josquin, Isaac, Lasso, Byrd, Monteverdi and Schütz. Schola alumni are invited to join the current group on motets of Josquin. A festive reception immediately follows the concert featuringsweet desserts, savory noshes and lively conversation. We warmly invite you to join us in celebrating the last and next 50 years of vocal Early Music in CNY.
This concert is lovingly dedicated to the memory of Emily Bass, long time supporter and past president of the board.
A Truly Complete Messiah
Following the Baroque tradition of presenting oratorios during Lent when opera houses were closed, Schola presents in chamber-format, a Spring performance of the complete Handel’s Messiah - uncut – both the Christmas and the Easter portions.
